If It’s Good Enough for Alton…

March 29, 2010 by Caroline 4 Comments

I have lots of news and pictures from this weekend coming up, but I wanted to start this week with one of many items checked off my Charleston list: eating at Jack’s Cosmic Dogs. This place had me feeling retro, so I edited the photos in Picnik to match.

If you didn’t know already, Alton Brown freaking adores this place. He is Jack’s number one fan. He claims that the Cosmic Dog, complete with blue cheese slaw and sweet potato mustard, is the Best Thing He Ever Ate. I’ve been dying to go here since I moved to Charleston and my parents’ visit was the perfect opportunity.

The sweet potato mustard is hard to explain. It’s nothing like mustard you’ve ever had. It’s sweet and goes perfectly with the salty hot dog or even to dip your fries in. Or to eat out of the jar. Just saying. The fries are skinny hand cut, fried in peanut oil, just how I like them.

This roadside stop past Boone Hall in Mt. Pleasant is pure Americana. Part 1950s decor, part space age theme, it’s ideal for a snack on your way to Myrtle Beach.

Doesn’t the mailbox look like Where’s Waldo? If you’re not located anywhere near the South, you can get your fix with Food for the Southern Soul. I know I will.

While I’m at it, I also checked Park Circle’s Sesame off my list. Here is the wannabe cougar, who is most certainly not Clyde, who sits in front of the new Carolina First Arena. I did not ride him because it just didn’t feel right. I had a burger with fontina and prosciutto. Yummmm.

Until my Bridge Run pains heal,

♥CITC
