I forgot all about these pictures until I started compiling them for a future post about small Southern towns. Two summers ago, my sister Sammi and I took a day trip to Chattanooga, TN.
We wanted to do something fun before going to our separate schools. It had been years since we had been to Chattanooga and back then it was for a school field trip to Rock City, Ruby Falls and the Tennessee Aquarium.
Since we had covered the tourist spots years ago, we didn’t want to pay for them this time. Instead, we looked around at the many shops and played in the dozens of city parks built under bridges and next to the river.
After a very filling lunch at Big River Grille, we walked to the other side of the bridge, which is home to more shops and parks, as well as an art museum.
My favorite parts of the city were the parking meters transformed to get rid of panhandling in the city. Instead of giving your change to someone and not knowing where it goes, the meters go directly to homeless programs. I’ve seen many more cities with similar systems lately.
And there’s these adorable dance maps into the sidewalk all over town. Here’s the hokey pokey, but you can find dozens of other dances.
