Porto prepared my liver for the destruction of Oktoberfest with all those 1 euro Super Bocks and port tonics at La Boheme, a bar that became the blogger haunt in my week there. Or so I thought.
After a typical experience with Ryanair (read: not good), I arrived at Memmingen, Munich’s “other” airport, where they were arresting a passenger off my flight. Not a good sign. I caught the bus and finally stumbled into Jaeger’s Hostel around 11 pm where my friend Christine was waiting for me.
Upon check-in, we were treated to a free shot from the bar, just what I needed after dealing with Ryanair. our choices were strawberry liqueur or knockoff Jagermeister. Since the hostel is called Jaeger’s, the choice seemed clear. It went down just as it did in college.
After a good night’s sleep, it was time to explore Munich, but I only really saw the beer garden. I had a few liters at Hofbrauhaus to catch up my friend and when we went back for an afternoon nap, we ended up waking at 8:30 pm.
Did I mention the beers are stronger over here? We quickly made a run to Schwabinger Kartoffelhaus (recommended to me by Andrea) to use potatoes to absorb all the excess alcohol.
I spent the next few days in a similar fashion, interspersing 2 euro Augustiners at the hostel bar with day trips to Neuschwanstein Castle, Dachau Concentration Camp and a bike tour. But more on those later.
My time in Munich was fuzzy to say the least and it was still a week until Oktoberfest. But the friendly staff at Jaeger’s and the ideal location next to the train station eased my headache.
I received complimentary accommodation at Jaeger’s Hostel through my partnership with Hostelworld, but all opinions are my own.

What did you think of Hofbrauhaus? I have never been. It always seems to be on everyone’s lists, so I tend to avoid the idea of going when I am in Munich. I did like the Augustiner beergarten a lot though.

It was fun but started to get a little rowdy around 1 pm.

I didn’t like Munich as much as Salzburg, but it is a nice city. And… congrats for your StumbleUpon profile! I’ve stumbled this post.

Glad you made it to Kartoffelhaus! Did you like it?
