Atlanta’s unexpectedly terrible snowstorm had me thinking I may not make it out to New York, where I was working the NY Now trade show for the second time. But after a long winding ride to the airport, two canceled flights and one delayed flight, we made it to a cold New York City where the city was in the midst of Super Bowl mania.

If there’s one thing that was in order for this trip to New York, it was noodles. Lots and lots of noodles. You could say I had them three different nights, but my favorite was the spicy ramen at Zutto Japanese American Pub, where I met up with my Sydney friend Lauren, a soon to be mom! We also may or may not have slurped up our entire bowls of noodles and broth. So not ashamed.
We were only in the city for a matter of hours before we woke up to a dusting of fresh powder covering every surface. It made it tricky to walk the 8 blocks to work, especially as both Sammi and I didn’t pack our waterproof shoes at the last minute. There isn’t a lot of free time when I travel for work, but I was glad to have enough time to meet up with a few friends.
On one night of our trip, we attended an event at the iconic Boathouse in Central Park, which had been coated with a foot of snow and remained relatively untouched by cars and snowplows. On our way to a nearby dive bar, we passed the Dakota building, where John Lennon was killed over thirty years prior.
Thankfully it’s not all work when it comes to New York. Our last afternoon before flying out at 4 pm involved the morning wandering through Strand Books, also known as one of the best bookstores in the world, a walk through the Village and brunch at Cafe Mogador. If you get the impression that all I do when I don’t work is eat, you’d be correct. Over the few days, I had food from Japan, India, Peru, Morocco, Thailand and even your regular old American.

Great photos Caroline. I have been lucky to experience NYC in the summer. I’d imagine that winter is something else.
Kadri says
I agree with Steve, I also went there in a summer time and I just fall in love, but in winter time it’s seems totally different.

There’s really nothing like being outside in a fresh dusting of snow, and then following it up with noodles!
Caroline says
Agreed, Laura! I love me some noodles.

I love seeing the snow! I’ve only seen it snow once in NYC, last year, and it freaked my Dad out (first time snow spotter) and delighted my sister (also, first time snow spotter!)
There are so many really cosy places to grab a drink or a bite to eat with friends, much like what you did, so that would be high up on my list of ‘love to do’ but also corny/cliche activities like skating at Rockafeller Centre (if you fancy braving the line or arriving early!)
