I’ve told you all where I’m going, but there’s so much that goes into a trip like this. Traveling for three months means you have to be prepared for anything and the places I’ll be visiting need visas and vaccinations. This trip has been two years in the making, so now it’s time to finalize the small details before packing our bags. So here’s my massive to-do list for the Australiasian Adventure.
Visas
I’ve applied for my ETA visa for Australia, which cost me $20. I’ve also printed the forms for the Myanmar visa so that I will be able to go straight to the embassy in Bangkok with it filled out should I decide to add it to the itinerary. We won’t need visas for our stays in Thailand or Singapore, so that saves us a bit of money. We’ll be taking some extra photos to go along with potential visas for Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
Vaccinations
I had three vaccinations for my last trip to Thailand, so hopefully I won’t have to get quite as many this time. The standard vaccinations for Southeast Asia are typhoid, tetanus and Japanese encephalitis. I’m booking an appointment at my local travel doctor to decide what I’ll realistically need.
Medications
I need to get plenty of quantities of my medications, including extra contacts, birth control and other essentials. I will also need a few prescriptions to add to my medical kit, including anti-malarial drugs and antibiotics in case of an infection. I’ve crafted an extensive first aid kit for any possible travel ailment.
Appointments
I’ve also been finishing up final appointments with my eye doctor and travel doctor, as well as a trip to the bank to let them know I’ll be traveling as well as to get some crisp US dollar bills to exchange and use during the trip.

We have started traveling with Zofran, which is great if you are throwing up. Gross, I know, but better than being sick and possibly getting dehydrated!

Duct tape. It solves literally any problem. Also I say treat yourself to a nice manicure or spa session or something relaxing before you leave, as a last hurrah of relaxation before the stresses that traveling inevitably brings. You know, treat yoself and all that.
