I consider myself to be a fairly frequent traveler and I get excited about staying in new hotels or other types of accommodation. But at some point, I miss my own bed. That doesn’t mean that I don’t love the amenities of hotels: the clean white sheets, the plush bathrobes, the bathtubs and the oh-so-desirable blackout shades. I’ve added a few hotel amenities to my house to give me that perfect night’s sleep only found in hotels.
Comfy Bathrobe
One of my favorite features of hotels is their bathrobes. Unfortunately, less and less hotels have them. My favorites are at the Omni, Westin and Kimpton chains. Pictured above in the header is my robe from the Westin Buckhead Atlanta and above is the animal print ones from Kimpton’s Ink48. This is one of those items that many hotels also let you purchase if you can’t live without it. At home, I have a white Ralph Lauren bathrobe.
Toiletries
I’m not ashamed to admit that I frequently steal the travel-sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash from hotels. In fact, I have a whole bag of them at my house because you never know when you might need them. Fill your bathroom with your favorite products from the companies the hotel chains use.
Molton Brown is one of my favorites, as well as Bliss and Gilchrist & Soames. I’m also partial to a bathtub with a view, but this one can be a little harder to arrange!
Plush Bedding
When I crawl into my hotel bed, I want to sink into the covers, so this is also something I want at home. The comforter should be plush so that I can pull it up to my face, like I did at the Hotel Majestic in Saigon, also known as the softest bed in Asia.
At my hotel in Cappadocia, there was an added touch of a heating pad underneath the sheets, which I was excited about after an all night bus and a long day walking around town.
Now that I’ve come home from the hard beds of Asia, I happily purchased a memory foam mattress topper and matching pillow to help me sleep even better. A good set of Martha Stewart sheets was also a necessity.
And of course, a glass of bubbly doesn’t hurt, even when you’re home.
