If there’s one American city I’ve been to more than any other (that I haven’t lived in), it’s probably New York City. In the last few years, I’ve gone every six months and have my own little home in Hell’s Kitchen, particularly the few blocks between my hotel and the Javits Center. One of the best parts about visiting so often is getting to try new restaurants and returning to old favorites. Here are a few of my go to NYC restaurants, most of which are located on the west side of Manhattan.
Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop
Located in Gotham West Market, Ivan Ramen is one of my favorites, especially as it’s halfway between work and the hotel. My first experience wasn’t overwhelming, but this time I opted for the spicy ramen, the better choice. Ivan Ramen has a cult-like following for being made by a man who is from Long Island but went to Tokyo to open his own ramen shop in the motherland of the dish.
Sullivan Street Bakery
I walked past Sullivan Street Bakery many times before stopping in. They sell some of the city’s best pastries, like the bombolone, Italian doughnuts, pictured above, as well as sandwiches and their signature thick, crusty breads. We even took a box of the pastries home to Atlanta afterwards.
Zutto Japanese American Pub
Zutto Japanese American Pub was a find of Sammi’s from a book or magazine she read. When it came time to meet up with my friend Lauren, we took the subway to Tribeca to meet her. Sammi ordered the sushi and both Lauren and I had the spicy ramen. I nearly licked the bowl clean it was so delicious. We ate around 7, but by the time we left the place was fully packed.
Palma
I first visited Palma with a small group of coworkers. This past summer, it was the site of our group dinner, located in the back house. It’s such a cozy space, especially when lit with candles and fresh flowers. The Italian food is delicious, as is the wine, and the atmosphere can’t be replicated.
Cafe Mogador
This brunch spot came recommended by a coworker and was well worth the hike to the East Village. Cafe Mogador has Mediterranean and Moroccan-inspired cuisine. I had poached eggs with a side of the spicy tomato sauce I enjoyed during my trip to Turkey.
Print.
Located in Ink48 Hotel, Print. serves up American fare like this heaping bowl of lamb bolognese that I had a few years ago. Also be sure to head up to the roof, home to the Press Lounge, which has cocktails and some of the best views of the city.
Genuine Roadside
Also located in Gotham West Market, Genuine Roadside is American classics. Here I order the chicken and waffles, pictured above, and their epic fried chicken sandwich on a soft potato roll and celeriac slaw. Pair it with a draft from Brooklyn Brewing.
Sunac Natural Market
My daily go to is Sunac Natural Market, located near the Javits Center. They have classic New York bagels, which you can have with egg and bacon or cream cheese. They also make fresh sandwiches and have a hot food bar.
Additional New York favorites include The Delta Grill, Pio Pio, Chai Thai, Turkish Cuisine and Basera Indian Bistro.

YUM! I haven’t been to any of these restaurants but am in the process of writing up my own list of “NYC Must Eats” that include Miss Korean BBQ, Il Laboratorio Del Galato, Caracas Arepa Bar and Bubby’s High Line.
I really want to try Genuine Roadside. Those waffles look SO good and looks perfect for this International visitor! :)
