I hadn’t been in Memphis since 2012, but somehow I found myself here three times within a matter of weeks. On the front end of my Mississippi trip, I only saw the airport, but on the back end, my new friend Lisa at the Tunica CVB decided to show a few of us around before we caught our late flights home. It was just a few of us left, but thankfully it was my favorite people from the trip (minus Bill!).
Beale Street hadn’t changed much since the last time I was here, which I was glad to see. You still find the signs for “Big Ass Beers” and ribs and blues lining the short pedestrian-only area. We heard music coming from a nearby park. I skipped the PBR in favor of a local beer from Ghost River, which I had with a barbecue sandwich from Rum Boogie Cafe, our chosen lunch spot.
The afternoon gave us a chance to talk about our favorite moments from our time in Mississippi and what we’d do differently next time. This brief trip only made my list of places to see in the state longer. Still on the docket are Oxford, Vicksburg, Tupelo, Biloxi and much more. And my time in Memphis is always too short, but I was back in the city, although briefly, less than a week later. More to come on that!

I’ve only been to Nashville, Tenn, and for too short a visit. I would love to explore this region.

I think I’ve been to Memphis once when I was really young, but I don’t really remember it. I think it’s time to go again :)
