I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
I finished Amy Poehler’s Yes Please and while I was slow to get into it, I really enjoyed it. I’ll admit that I’ve been slow reading books this month just because of my chaotic travel schedule. But as the holidays roll around, I hope to change this! I’m starting to focus on the importance of “me time,” unplugged from my computer and doing something that isn’t focused on work. Last week it was scrapbooking (a trip from 2013!) and this week it will be reading.

Listening
I’m always listening to something, but this month I had to rely on my iPhone as my CD player in my car got jammed with my Ryan Adams CD on the way down to Florida. Such a bummer! What was on my playlist this month were St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Adele and Sia’s new songs and, as creepy as I feel for saying it, Nick Jonas.
There’s something so catchy about his music. I’m also loving the Gravy podcast from the Southern Foodways Alliance. I had the pleasure of visiting the alliance’s offices in Oxford last week! It focuses on Southern food’s impact on modern culture and recently won a James Beard Award.
Loving
Things to obsess over this month include sparkling water and Hi Ball energy drinks. I try not to drink much soda anymore, especially energy drinks after years of downing Red Bulls when I was bartending, so I love the “healthy” energy drinks. I buy them at my local Kroger but first had them when my boss bought them for trade show setup in New York.
My new fall wardrobe, if you can call it that, is a pair of stretchy leggings from Old Navy, a soft t-shirt, specifically my new one from Big Bad Breakfast in Oxford, and Converses. It’s not that different from what I wear year round but is apparently fashionable now.
And in terms of exercise, I’ve admittedly fallen off the wagon. I was good about it for a while, but after my foot surgery earlier this year, I just haven’t had the same enthusiasm for running. Instead, I’ve gotten into swimming, which is lower impact on my delicate feet while still creating a full body workout. I got a membership to my local aquatic center for $35 for 10 visits and go in the morning during senior water aerobics.
Working
This is generally a slow time of year for me and when I start up my seasonal job, but I’m now focusing solely on writing. I’m coming up with new pitches, applying for some jobs and seeing what happens! I also worked on a few recent posts for the Eagle Creek blog, including their holiday gift guide for her! Check it out.
I’m still working for Her Packing List and a local publication every month. I’m also doing another quarterly update of my AFAR.com guide.

Traveling
I got home from Florida at 9 pm on October 31 after driving for 13 hours straight from Fort Lauderdale. The two-week trip was fun, especially hanging with blogger friends, going to meetings and visiting cool places, but exhausting. I was home for about a week before going to Oxford, Mississippi, a cute college town I fell hard for. Now I’m home for another few days before heading out to central Louisiana for a holiday-themed trip.
On tap for December is a new state (Texas!) and revisiting one of my old haunts in South Carolina. Thanks for following!
