I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
I FINALLY FINISHED THE NIGHT CIRCUS. I found it necessary to put that in all caps because it took me almost a year to finish. It’s not my style anyways, but I was in a book club that was reading it. It had so many characters and a timeline that hopped around, so I found it hard to follow without a map. But I did it out of stubbornness.
I am almost done re-reading the last Harry Potter and have downloaded a few samples of books that I’m not sure I’m ready to commit to. This includes The Run of His Life: The People vs. OJ Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, the book that inspired the television show.
And in preparation for an upcoming trip, I used a free Audible credit to download the audiobook of All the Light We Cannot See. To use your own credit, click on the banner below, which won’t cost you a dime. And to see what I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here.
Listening
As I just mentioned, I’m finally giving audiobooks a go after spending a long time away from them. It’s how I would listen to assigned books for school that I hadn’t given myself enough time to read. I’m still on the same podcasts, but am definitely looking for some new ones. I’m also looking for new music to listen to. I’ve already overplayed the new Sia and Adele but now want something fun and upbeat. Recommendations and … go!
Watching
All my shows are back on! Sunday nights are especially intense for The Walking Dead and I’ve gotten back into the TGIT shows like How to Get Away with Murder as well. I still haven’t gotten through Making a Murderer and I may have lost interest.
I’ve gone back to the beginning with TWD as I started watching very late in the game and have seen early episodes here and there, but never in the right order. It’d be wrong for me, as an Atlantan, to not be into this show. Also, Broad City is back, which I’m enjoying, as is Girls, which I’m almost glad will be over soon. The storylines are played out.
Loving
I’m a little short on my “loving” section this month, not because I’m not loving anything, but just because nothing is immediately coming to mind. I am loving the short bursts of warm weather that have me wearing sandals, even when it’s not seasonally appropriate.
I’m also loving (and hating) the process known as the American presidential election season. As a former student of political science, it’s fascinating to study, but terrifying to think about the future. That’s why I’ve made the most obvious choice for president.
Working
A couple of clients have cut my work or stopped working with me altogether, which sucks, but I’ve also gained some new work, including an article for a jewelry trade publication I’m pretty excited about. I’ve also started work for a wedding publication, which may seem unusual, but is allowing me to use my knowledge of my city in a totally different way. Let’s hope for more work soon! See what I’m working on via my Contently profile.
And in something completely different, this week I completed my first gig working as an extra on a television show here in Atlanta. I’d thought about doing it for a long time and was in a movie as a child, but the stars finally aligned. You need total flexibility when it comes to working as an extra because jobs may not be posted until a few days before and the location might not be announced until late the night before.
It’s a whole lot of standing and waiting, but an easy day’s work. I hope to do it again soon, so stay tuned for a post about how to find work as an extra and what to expect! As soon as the show comes out, I’ll be sure to link to it.
Traveling
In February, I’ve tried to mostly stay still due to the chaos coming my way for March and April. The only places I went were Albany (including a day trip to Plains!), as mentioned last month, and Knoxville, Tennessee for one night for a wedding. Pictured at the top is a wall made of empty wallets that was at my friend’s wedding venue.
Next up is a week in North Carolina for a conference, possibly a last minute trip somewhere close by and then another maybe press trip, which all depends on how quickly my passport returns from being renewed! It’s certainly a first world problem, but I’m hoping I can pull it off. More details coming soon!
