I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
I quickly finished The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo and immediately started on Orange Is the New Black. It’s not as good as I hoped it would be and isn’t very funny. It reads much more matter of fact from a yuppie woman in prison. She mostly talks about all her friends there, how many people liked her, and the frustrations with the prison system.
Characters from the show are very loosely based on this book, but I’m almost done now and may as well finish. Next up is Where’d You Go, Bernadette? Needless to say, I’m very behind on my self-imposed 52 book reading challenge. What else should I add to my list? To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here.
Listening
In a world full of Serial wannabes, I thought Breakdown, created by my local newspaper, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, would just be another in efforts to reach the millennial audiences that don’t actually read their paper. But now in its second season, I’ve found the podcast to be very well made.
Last season focused on an arson case in rural western Georgia while this one is about the high profile hot car death of a child not far from where I live in suburban Atlanta. You’ve likely heard about it on the news already, but this podcast is following the trial, recently moved to another part of the state in an effort for fairness.
Watching
All the Netflix love this month. So many good things have come out recently. I started on Luke Cage, the follow-up series to Jessica Jones, and Chelsea, the late night talk show of Chelsea Handler. I’ve added a number of documentaries to my to-watch list, including the ones on Amanda Knox, the Italian crime families, and the brother of Kitty Genovese.
I’ve finally made my way through all of the early seasons of The Walking Dead in preparation for the insane season premiere that will take place October 23. The next Sunday I’ll be attending Walker Stalker, a convention just for fans like me! I’ll be “stalking” my favorite actors.
Loving
So many things I’m loving lately. I recently tried out Epic Wipes, which look like a standard wet wipe but are much larger. I could have used these babies when camping out west, especially as we had to drive and pay to shower there, or at a music festival like Bonnaroo.
Google Trips is a brand-new app that, full disclosure, I was contracted to create content for by a third party (*this is the legal message where I say clearly that I don’t work for Google). It pulls data from your email account to put reservations in one place, combined with maps and recommendations. And I recently purchased a new bike, my very first as an adult, for only $80. It’s purple and totally suits me.
Working
The last month was absolute chaos, including my Google Trips work, finishing the latest issue of The Knot and updating a guide for Afar. That’s on top of my usual workload for other clients and blogs. But I’m taking on a few non-travel clients to make my work more regular. See what else I’m working on via my Contently profile.
Traveling
In the last month alone, I went to Gulf Shores, Alabama, where I did my first triathlon; Natchez, Mississippi, where I spoke at a tourism conference; Seaside, Florida, where I tried to relax for the week; and Helen, Georgia, where I explored the mountains and ate all the German food. Next up, I’ll be in North Alabama, specifically Muscle Shoals and Huntsville, followed by a trip to Lodi, California. Leave me any tips below!
