I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
I’m loving this Vice story about a dude in London who turned his backyard shed into the top-rated restaurant in the city on TripAdvisor. I haven’t been reading much lately, but have five more books I need to finish to complete my reading challenge this year. The holidays should present me with a bit more time. To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
I’m finally listening to all the suggested podcasts I’ve read about, including Dirty John, DTR, and Missing Richard Simmons. All have a bit more lightness than my usual dark true crime genre. Any others I can’t miss? I’ve also been jamming to Leon Bridges lately.
Watching
I’m slowly making my way through Mindhunter, but have to take breaks in between episodes because of the heavy subject matter. I finally finished watching The Punisher, which I loved because of Jon Bernthal and Ben Barnes, but it also was fairly intense as well.
He was a welcome appearance on Daredevil, but I was bummed not to see him on The Defenders, which I think would have improved it. I’ve also continued my Twitter coverage of The Walking Dead, which you can catch every Sunday at 9 pm EST by following the hashtag #SheriffKingWidow.
Loving
I’ve been trying a few new things in terms of spas and health as I finished this book writing process. First, I had a Digital Detox treatment at the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta, which involved working on the parts of your body affected by slumping over a computer.
A few weeks later, it was the hot tubs and saunas at Jeju Sauna, a Korean spa in the suburb of Duluth. Warning for those who are afraid of being naked in front of strangers! This past week, I tried my first float in a sensory deprivation tank at Flo2S in quirky Little Five Points. It took a bit of getting used to, and 90 minutes feels like a long time, but I would definitely do it again.
Working
Over 50,000 words later, I finished writing my book! There’s so much left to happen before it comes out next year (June, I think) including edits and marketing, but I can’t wait to see it! I’m also winding down my work for the year, completing articles.
This is generally my slowest time of work for the year, through February, so it’s nice to have time to reset and decide what kinds of stories I want to pitch in 2018. I am still working for Explore Georgia and Owners and my story for Where Atlanta’s 2018 Guestbook came out. See what else I’m working on via my Contently profile.
Traveling
I wasn’t fully done with my book when I went to Chicago, but I used it as my reward for being almost done. I hadn’t been to the city in over a decade and so enjoyed going as an adult. I stayed at two luxury hostels, Fieldhouse Jones and Freehand Chicago, spent hours escaping the cold at museums, and checking out the awesome cocktail bars.
Look out for a full post about it soon. Next up is one last press trip to central Florida and an end-of-year getaway to Asheville. I’ll have more details about my travel schedule for next year soon as well.
