One of my goals for this year was to spend more time working on projects that I wanted to, not had to. I went on a creative retreat to Nicaragua this summer and wanted to replicate it on my own terms. The first time around, my destination of choice was Asheville, somewhere I’d visited a number of times before. The laid back atmosphere is the perfect place to disconnect from the stresses of home and work while working on my book.

Where to Stay in Asheville
While there are dozens of great hotels in downtown Asheville, a personal retreat is the perfect time to try something different. Asheville Glamping has Airstream trailers and glamping tents in West Asheville. Shoji Spa & Lodge offers both spa treatments and accommodations tucked in the mountains off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Mountain Light Sanctuary is further out of town but has standard inn accommodations as well as rustic options. OM Sanctuary is another option. I rented an Airbnb, a tiny house south of town, which was the perfect fit for my needs. Book it here.
Where to Heal in Asheville
Asheville is a great place to indulge in self care. Shoji also offers hour long sessions in their stunning hot pools for only $45 as well as massages and longer treatments. The Asheville Salt Cave is a unique experience that lasts 45 minutes for around $25 that has healing properties from the Himalayan salt crystals.
The Omni Grove Park Inn has award-winning spa facilities if you’re up for a splurge. Asheville Community Yoga offers excellent classes at pay-what-you-like rates. You can also find acupunture and sensory deprivation establishments in town.
Where to Eat & Drink in Asheville
There’s no shortage of deliciousness to be found in Asheville, no matter your budget. It’s known for its craft beer scene, so be sure to visit a brewery or winery during your stay. I personally loved The Funkatorium from Wicked Weed because of my love of sour beers.
The Biltmore Estate Winery is another favorite. Battery Park Book Exchange And Champagne Bar has two of my favorite things. For non-alcoholic goods, try Trade and Lore for great coffee and Dobra Tea for their hemp latte.
There’s also no shortage of deliciousness to be found in the city, so be sure to treat yourself. Cúrate has won countless awards for its Spanish-inspired menu and they also own Nightbell Restaurant & Lounge down the street. For quick and tasty lunches, try White Duck Taco Shop. Biscuit Head and Sunny Point Cafe have some of the best breakfasts in town.
So whether you’re working on a creative project like a book or just want to spend a few days disconnecting from it all, Asheville is the perfect getaway. I can’t wait to go back!
