I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
It’s been a slow reading month for me, apart from the time I had in the car in Canada. I finished The Girls, which I found to be sort of anticlimactic. I’m curious to see if this turns into a movie. I’m still reading Quiet and Kitty Genovese, a long book about one of America’s most infamous murders.
In honor of Comic Con, I bought and quickly devoured The Walking Dead Volume 29: Lines We Cross and pre-ordered the next one. I hope to set aside more time to read this month. To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
I quickly worked my way through Girls Gotta Eat, mentioned last month, and have told all of my friends about it. One of their early guests was Jared Fried, one of the hosts of another dating podcast called U Up? that I’ve gotten into. He teams up with one of the founders of Betches for both male and female perspectives on dating scenarios.
I’ve already listened to the trailers for the new seasons of Slow Burn and Up and Vanished, both coming soon. If you don’t listen to either, now is a great time to start.
Watching
I’ve been watching both new and old shows in my free time this month. I am really enjoying Sharp Objects, which I read a few years back. It’s super dark and twisty and, best of all, was filmed in Georgia! And if you haven’t read the book, you have to do it.
I’ve also watched the new seasons of The Challenge, Harlots, and Orange is the New Black. After hearing an interview with Nick Kroll, I started watching Big Mouth, which is the only “adult cartoon” I’ve ever found funny. And after watching a special about the making of the show, I’ve been going back to watch Freaks and Geeks, a classic.
Loving
I got a pasta maker for my birthday, which I’ve enjoyed playing with. I also started meditating, using the Pacifica app, that I recommend. It has guided meditations, cognitive behavioral health questions, daily quotes, message boards, and other great settings.
Traveling
July started off with a big family vacation to Banff in Alberta, Canada, where we soaked in the hot springs, traipsed on glaciers, and searched for wildlife. I had a few weeks back home before meeting up with my sister in Bryson City, North Carolina, a town in the state’s section of the Great Smoky Mountains. We drove into Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge for a few tourist attractions and also explored Cherokee.
This month, I’ll be back to North Carolina to stay at a resort in the mountains. A week later, I’m going to Florida for a double trip, starting with the opening of the Aventura Hotel at Universal Orlando Resort. From there, I’ll pop over to Sarasota to celebrate a friend’s birthday before flying home. Immediately afterward, I’ll drive to the North Carolina coast to explore Onslow County.
Working
Surprise: my book didn’t actually come out last month. It was pushed back at the last minute, which was a bummer for me, but it’s still available for pre-order, tentatively set for release in September. This month has been stressful as I’ve been desperately trying to get more work so that I can afford to one day buy a new car and a house and generally live like an adult.
To make this happen, I sent out 16 pitches this month, which resulted in three stories (so far). I was also assigned a handful of stories. My work continued for Explore Georgia. Stories I wrote many months back finally came out in the UK’s Evening Standard, Foodie Travel USA, and Hilton’s blog. See what else I’m working on via my Contently profile (and hire me!).
