I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
Getting back into the grind at home, I haven’t been as good about setting aside time to read. So I am still working my way through a few books on my Kindle. But at my book signing in Memphis, I picked up a copy of Dead Girls, a book of essays about America’s obsession with true crime.
I’m about halfway through and really enjoying the sections on pop culture and the dark side of LA. To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
Because of the long drive to Memphis and the flight to Richmond, I had a lot of time to listen to stuff! I got myself psyched up for my Memphis book signing with the Spotify playlist Best of Stax. In Richmond, I bought records of Etta, Elton, and Simon & Garfunkel at a secondhand store that I’ve been playing on repeat. I’m also still working to launch an episode of my podcast, This Is My South, this week!
Watching
I’m slowly re-watching Game of Thrones but have a lot of ground to cover before the final season premieres in the next few weeks. I quickly watched the final season of Catastrophe and fully cried because it was so good. I’m still watching The Punisher but have to take it slow since it’s a bit dark. And I just started Shrill after reading the book. Aidy Bryant is fantastic!
Loving
I brought back a bunch of souvenirs for myself and others from South Africa like woven baskets, jewelry, and a whole lotta
Working
I’ve been in a bit of a funk in terms of writing, only sending out a few pitches. But I’m hoping this spring will bring some new ideas. I’m also continuing my work for Explore Georgia and have a few stories coming out soon for other outlets. I’m not sure if I ever shared it here, but my story for Fodor’s on American speakeasies came out last month.

Traveling
I had an incredible trip to South Africa. I’ve started writing a bit about it, but there’s a lot more left to cover. After my stay in Chintsa, I spent a few tumultuous days in Port Elizabeth, followed by a fun day in Storms River. I also went to Stellenbosch for a few days before a too-brief stay in Cape Town.
The journey home was nightmarish (I got food poisoning?!) but I survived. But the rest at home was brief. I had one full day before going to Memphis for a few days for a book signing. I also had another in Richmond the next week. But now I’m home for a while!
Next up, I have a few trips around the South including one to Florida. Stay tuned for more!
