I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
As much as I love to read, I rarely make time for it these days. But I had plenty of time on my flights back and forth from California. I finally finished reading Furiously Happy by blogger Jenny Lawson. And in a matter of days, I tore through Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, of My Favorite Murder fame.
I’m still reading Ten Years a Nomad: A Traveler’s Journey Home, a travel memoir by my friend Nomadic Matt. I’ll be writing about the book in its entirety soon! I also purchased copies of A Culinary History of Atlanta written by my friend Akila and Grits: A Cultural and Culinary Journey Through the South by Erin Byers Murray for research. I’m also reading The Cooking Gene by Michael W. Twitty.
To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
I’m not much of an audiobook listener since I prefer podcasts but quickly got through Evil Has a Name thanks to an Audible credit. It’s an incredible story about the taking down of the Golden State Killer with clips from victims and the people that helped solve the crimes.
If that wasn’t enough, Man in the Window also covers the crimes of the Golden State Killer. I’m also enjoying Nice Try!, a podcast about attempted utopias by Curbed. I especially enjoyed the Jamestown and Oneida episodes.
Watching
I’m much more of a fan of the Marvel Netflix shows than the movies, so it’s bittersweet to watch the final season of Jessica Jones. I break up the heavy shows with funny and brief ones. Recently that was Bonding and Schitt’s Creek. I’m also SOOOO EXCITED about the next season of Stranger Things.
Loving
I love July in Atlanta. It’s my absolute favorite time of year, despite the heat. I’m excited to spend this week doing the Peachtree Road Race in full Amurrica garb and celebrating my birthday with dinner and a hotel stay downtown.
I’m also excited to test out this new hat from Tenth Street Hats called, appropriately, Ushuaia. No better way to get me to purchase a product than to name it after a destination!
Working
I’ve been working hard on stories for regular clients and new ones. I had one of my stories go live for Discover Atlanta and Explore Georgia. I’ve continued working for The Dyrt and my second story was published for them. I also had my first story published by October, an incredible beer publication. I’m also speaking at the Decatur Book Festival Labor Day weekend, so save the date!

Traveling
I spent a week traveling around California including a few days in Los Angeles, a night in Laguna Beach, and a few more in Palm Springs. I’ve written about them already but will probably continue to! I’ve thankfully since had a break from travels to deal with some family stuff. Next up is a short weekend trip to Tennessee and a few more regional short trips in July. But let’s be honest: this month is my favorite time of year to be at home.
