I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
I’ve had a good reading month and made time for it. I finished reading Ten Years a Nomad: A Traveler’s Journey Home, a travel memoir by my friend Nomadic Matt. Read all about it here!
I have wanted to read I’ll Be Gone in the Dark since it came out and I was lucky enough to check out the e-book from my local library. In case you don’t know, it’s a book written by Michelle McNamara about her research on the Golden State Killer, published after her sudden death.
She shows such care with the stories of the victims, something that isn’t a given with true crime. I tore through it in days. I’m also excited to read my friend Valerie’s new book Dark Skies, a Lonely Planet guide to astrotourism.
To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
If you don’t follow Heather McMahan on Instagram, you should do that immediately. The Atlanta native recently launched her own podcast, called Absolutely Not. It’s funny and honest in a way I needed.
My family gave me a new record player for my birthday and I can’t wait to finally listen to a Carole King record I purchased at an antique store. The ones I’ve used previously were cheap and not exactly high quality.
Watching
I finished watching the final season of Jessica Jones, which was bittersweet as I felt there was a lot of storyline left to cover. Stranger Things season three has been intense so I’m glad I only had eight episodes to digest!
I’m so excited for the return of Veronica Mars, a show I didn’t get into until it was already off the air. My favorite Hulu show Harlots is also coming back for a third season. And, of course, Orange is the New Black has its final season.
Loving
After last year’s big hurrah for my thirtieth, I was unsure what to do for my birthday this year. So I kept it low key with close friends, watching the Women’s World Cup (USA!), going to dinner, and spending the night at my beloved Hotel Clermont. There may also have been breakfast tacos! My thirties have been all about realizing what’s important to me and what’s not.
Working
I’ve given myself a bit of a break this month after sending out a lot of pitches last month. I’ve been in a bit of a slump with placing stories so it’s time to regroup. I’ve also been working on stories for my regular outlets and picked back up work on my memoir, especially after mentioning it on my birthday list. But I did have my stories come out for The Dyrt and Southwest Georgia Living!
I’m also speaking at the Decatur Book Festival Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, so save the date! If you’d like to see more of my work, visit my professional website, CarolineEubanks.com, for more information. If you got a copy of my book, please consider reviewing it on Amazon or Goodreads.
Traveling
At the end of June, I went up to Tennessee for a quick trip to cover for my freelance outlets. I took a nice break after that before going to Blairsville, a laid-back mountain town in North Georgia. Up next is a trip to Greenville, South Carolina for a friend’s baby shower followed by a few days in Montgomery, Alabama and surrounds for research! August will be quieter thankfully.
