I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
I had a good month in terms of finishing books. While I was at the beach, I quickly tore through Normal People after watching the book. I also finished reading All the Single Ladies after slowly working through it for the past six months. Now I’m reading The Color Purple, which I somehow never read in school.
To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
I’ve been starting my day by listening to the NPR podcast Up First, which is a quick digest of the news. I’m excited that Scientology: Fair Game continues the work of Leah Remini and Mike Rinder after their A&E show.
My friends Carl and Christina just started their podcast, NC Travel Chat, which I highly recommend if you are planning a trip to North Carolina.
Watching
Despite plentiful options, I always gravitate towards rewatching old shows. So far that’s been Gossip Girl and House. I also started a free trial of CBS All Access, which has all my reality favorites like The Challenge. I also started Outer Banks, the teen drama that was filmed in Charleston.
It’s like The Goonies meets The Notebook with hot people. And if you haven’t watched I’ll Be Gone in the Dark on HBO, it’s absolutely incredible. Very intense, but a beautiful interpretation of the book.
Loving
I’ve been trying not to buy any unnecessary things since my unemployment is likely coming to a close. But the exceptions are a new harness for my dog (that keeps her from pulling so hard!), a bar tool kit for making at-home cocktails, and a pasta cutter for making farfalle and ravioli.
Speaking of which, I’ve really enjoyed testing out new recipes. I find it soothing. For example, I’ve made homemade vegan pesto using backyard basil and this Minimalist Baker recipe, frosé using this Eataly recipe, khao soi, and more homemade bagels. I also got The Saltwater Table for my birthday and can’t wait to try out some seafood recipes!
Working
I placed a few stories recently in new outlets including a story in Fifty Grande on the Natchez Trace Parkway and another on The Archive about modern-day hermits, the original social distancers. I also placed two stories with big outlets that I’m excited to share when they come out.

Traveling
I took my first trip since quarantine started back in March last month. I spent five days in Charleston and the surrounding area. I may write an entire post about how we were able to do it safely, but for now, I’ll say that I wore a mask most of the time and ate at restaurants with separated tables. Most people were being responsible and doing the same, with a few exceptions.
