Did we make it out of 2020?!
I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
Breaking Hate has been hard to read at times because of how easy it is for people to get involved with hate groups. But I found it really interesting just because of the wide viewpoints of these organizations from ex-ISIS members to far-right anti-government sects.
Tracks was good but ultimately a large portion of the book is about her preparations for the journey. I think it would have benefited from better pacing. I did enjoy the descriptions of the Outback towns.

Listening
I’ve been on a new (to me) podcast binge, especially single-season shows. I started 1619 a while back but never finished it. I finally completed it and loved the American music episode. I’ve also been listening to true crime podcasts like Down the Hill, Uncover, Brainwashed, and Hunting Warhead.
Watching
I’ve been watching plenty of shows on my streaming services including Happiest Season on Netflix and The Trial of Christine Keeler on HBO Max, which just launched their Fire stick app. I’ll never finish all of the HBO selections but leave me suggestions in the comments!
Loving
In past years, I’ve really enjoyed going to Christmas pop-up bars here in Atlanta and despite the changes in place, this year was no different. The quirky decorations and excuse to dress ridiculously has certainly lifted my spirits and gotten me into the holiday mood.
Working
I wrote about key limes and Australia for HowStuffWorks. My story for Mental Floss about a 1950 polio epidemic in Virginia, which had been killed by two other outlets before being published. A story I wrote for Atlanta Magazine came out in their annual Best of Atlanta issue.
I also wrote my first story for Southern Living and have a few others coming out soon. I just turned in a story for The Washington Post and my Knoxville story for FiftyGrande is in the second issue, in stores now! I also saw my book at a store in St. Simon’s, so that’s always fun.

Traveling
I took a quick weekend trip to St. Simon’s Island here in Georgia in early December to cover a hotel opening but otherwise have stayed home. I have one quick research trip this week. I have no idea what’s next for travel as I haven’t booked anything yet, but I’m not ruling it out.
