You know it’s been a wild month when I don’t get around to the roundup until nearly the next month! I went from one conference to another and we had a family injury that has thrown us for a loop, but I’m back on track.
In every monthly post, I like to share the articles I’m reading, the shows I’m watching, and the podcasts I’m listening to. They’ll remain free to read but there will continue to be affiliate links to recommended products to support site upkeep.
If you’re looking for a way to support my work, buy my book, read my articles, or sign up for my courses. Thanks again for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!
This post contains affiliate links that can earn this website a small income. They will not cost you anything to use.
Reading
I finished reading Leaving Isn’t the Hardest Thing, which I found really interesting. I’ve now started Daisy Jones and the Six, which I am enjoying so far, especially as it reads like a “Behind the Music.”
I loved this article on the White House’s secret record collection on The Washingtonian. After watching this season of Peaky Blinders, I found this article for Smithsonian about the Canadian island that was at the center of Prohibition and the smuggling of alcohol.
To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
Because of all the driving I’ve done this month, I’ve had a lot of time for podcasts. I loved the bad dating advice episode on Be There In Five and the new season of Breakdown, hosted by my friend Tamar, about the attempts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia. This season of Slow Burn is also interesting as it covers the leadup to Roe vs. Wade.
Watching
So many things are back! I loved this season of Stranger Things, despite it being much darker, and can’t wait for the next half. The second season of The Flight Attendant wasn’t as much of a favorite as the first, but I still enjoyed it. I’ve also already finished the final (maybe?) season of Peaky Blinders.
I watched the documentary Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, a documentary about sexual assault and underage marriages in the FLDS church, which was hard to watch. I’ve also finally started watching this season of Atlanta.
Loving
It’s rose season! My friends came over the other night and we tried two of the popular celeb-owned wines, Maison No. 9 and Hampton Water. We are looking to try more this summer if you have suggestions!
Causes
I’m sick of hearing about more shooting deaths. I can hardly remember a time before them. Your right to bear arms should not infringe on my right to not die a violent death. This month, I’m donating to Everytown for Gun Safety and I hope you will too.
Working
I wrote about the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, where I stayed this January, for this month’s Simply Buckhead. For Garden & Gun, I wrote about a unique public library in Memphis where anyone can listen to rare records. For USA Today, I wrote a sponsored story on Myrtle Beach.
For Roadtrippers, I covered pint-sized museum in Hattiesburg and for my first for Atlas Obscura, I wrote about the fight to save the iconic Rock City barns. For Conde Nast Traveler, I wrote about Georgia’s best state and national parks. For Southern Living, I shared the joys of lake life. For Lonely Planet, I wrote about North Carolina hikes.
And I’m excited to announce that a book I contributed photos to, the Great American Road Trip, comes out in August! A handful of my Mississippi Delta photos are in it. You can pre-order it here.

Traveling
June was the most chaotic of months to date. At the beginning of the month, I left for Orlando, Florida, where I attended IPW, one of the biggest travel conferences in the world. I ran myself ragged with meetings, but I got to catch up with friends and go to the theme parks after hours! Stay tuned for a post on where I went. Unfortunately, I did get sick (not Covid!), which made things harder.
From there, I had a day or so at home before leaving for Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I’d been working on a conference for months and I was so glad to finally see it through. Everything mostly went off without a hitch! I celebrated with a much-awaited bottle of champagne.
I am so happy to spend some time at home for the next few weeks before a REAL vacation in July! Follow me on Instagram if you want to see where I’m going.
