July seemed to fly by, especially with two back-to-back trips. I can’t believe it’s already August as my friend’s kids head back to school!
In every monthly post, I like to share the articles I’m reading, the shows I’m watching, and the podcasts I’m listening to. They’ll remain free to read but there will continue to be affiliate links to recommended products to support site upkeep.

Reading
I am still reading Poster Child, but on my travels, I finished Daisy Jones and the Six and quickly read The Last American Man.
A mysterious landmark in my home state was bombed by a conspiracy theorist, which you can read about in the Wall Street Journal. This stunning piece for Smithsonian showcases one of the most beautiful parts of Arkansas. Input covered the implosion of No White Saviors in great detail. And The New Yorker highlighted one of my favorite bookstores in the world, in Oxford, Mississippi.

Listening
Nothing new here!
Watching
Like so many others, I quickly watched the last half of Stranger Things and am still not over it. If you’re into filming locations, you can see some of the new ones over on This Is My South! I also finally finished The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and felt meh about it. Not Okay was interesting, but very meta. I’ve also been watching The Righteous Gemstones and am almost done with Top Chef Houston.
Loving
I’ve more or less loved the same musicians for over a decade, including Brandi Carlile. I love this song and also picked up Jenny Lewis’s new album.
Working
I had so much fun profiling a designer for Boston‘s oldest house, who worked with a local craftsman to build a custom bed. I wrote about it for Architectural Digest. For InsideHook, I wrote about the Argentinian grills beloved by chefs and locals in St. Augustine. For Garden & Gun, I profiled Mike Wolfe of American Pickers about his adopted hometown of Columbia, Tennessee.
Next up, I’m working on a guide to fall foliage, the origins of a popular phrase, tips for beginning with backyard archaeology, a Kentucky store selling the rarest bourbon around, a funky bakery and coffee shop in Houston, and a road trip guide to Arkansas.

Traveling
I had a lovely time on my trip to Belize. It felt so nice to be traveling and meeting people again. I had so much delicious food and spent every day swimming. A few days later, it was back to work. I spent a few days on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, a place I hadn’t been since 2018.
Next up, I’m returning to a lovely North Carolina mountaintop resort I also went to in 2018, followed by a small Virginia town. At the end of August, I’m going on another international trip: to Colombia! I can’t wait.
