I’m starting to wrap up my work for the year but the travels have continued! I’ve been on an international trip with one more to come and three domestic trips to come. Stay tuned to my Instagram (@cairinthecity) for updates!
In every monthly post, I like to share the articles I’m reading, the shows I’m watching, and the podcasts I’m listening to. They’ll remain free to read but there will continue to be affiliate links to recommended products to support site upkeep.
If you’re looking for a way to support my work, buy my book, read my articles, or sign up for my courses. Thanks again for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
I finally finished reading Manhunters and while it was interesting to learn about the takedown of Escobar, it was a generally poorly written book with a lot of time spent on the authors’ history.
In terms of what I’m reading online, I loved this story in the New York Times about the word “y’all” and this other in Conde Nast Traveler about the Gullah Geechee history of Daufuskie Island.
To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Watching
I haven’t had the chance to watch yet but over the holidays, I hope to catch up on The Sex Lives of College Girls, Dead to Me, and The Crown!
Listening
I picked up a Phoebe Bridgers record on my trip to Athens I’ve been listening to.
Loving
I’ll be honest. The election news out of Georgia wasn’t favorable. I was really hoping to see Stacey Abrams take the governor’s mansion. And while many of the races didn’t turn out how I’d hoped, I tried to remember the good things, like all of the firsts to come out of the election, plus the win of John Fetterman. Locally, I have a new state house rep, Solomon Adesanya, who is a Nigerian immigrant.
Writing
In the last month, my article on tiny bars ran in Garden & Gun, one on Virginia Beach’s ViBe District appeared in Hemispheres, and my first for Wine Enthusiast was about why we put dollar bills on bar walls. I also wrote a Veteran’s Day story for Southern Living about a group that flies vintage aircraft in Georgia and a Savannah dining guide for The Infatuation. My CNN story was also shared on 7 News Australia!
Stay tuned later this month for an interview with plant experts about alternatives to peat moss, San Antonio beyond the Alamo, a violin maker in Louisiana, a charming town in Mississippi, a rails-to-trail line in Virginia, and a landmark in Georgia connected with conspiracy theories.

Traveling
Early this month, I went to Ocala, Florida, the horse capital of the state, for a food festival and to stay at a luxury hotel. I met some great fellow writers and had some truly incredible meals. From there, I went to Athens for the weekend for some antiquing and drinking, not to mention dinner and brunch that I’m still not over, and a wine festival. I also traveled to Vienna for a few days to see the Christmas markets!
