Thanks for bearing with as I clearly lost track in December but as you’ll soon find out, I was super busy with work and travel in the final weeks of the year. But it was worth it!
In every monthly post, I like to share the articles I’m reading, the shows I’m watching, and the podcasts I’m listening to. They’ll remain free to read but there will continue to be affiliate links to recommended products to support site upkeep.
If you’re looking for a way to support my work, buy my book, read my articles, or sign up for my courses. Thanks again for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
I’ll admit that I haven’t been reading much lately. My sister read 100 last year so my 15 or so is pretty sad. But I’m hoping to prioritize reading a bit more this year. I am, however, enjoying all of the Y2K renewal like this article on pairing drinks with your millennial celeb.
To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
My gossip addiction knows no bounds. I’ve just started listening to Fluently Forward, which covers blind items and conspiracy theories.
Watching
Like everyone else, I binge-watched Wednesday. It combined what I loved about early Riverdale and the friendships of Sex Education. I also tore through the new season of Letterkenny and miss it already. I finished my annual Gossip Girl rewatch and have now moved on to the reboot. It’s definitely different but has a similar storyline.
Loving
I enjoyed a laid-back holiday season with family and my annual Christmas party, this time with the space theme. I had a great time decorating and, most importantly, planning my outfit. I also created my annual vision board!
Working
I had a crazy amount of work since November and even more will be published in the coming weeks. For Southern Living, I wrote about a violin maker in Louisiana and a female distiller in Memphis. For InsideHook, I wrote about the anniversary of Everglades National Park and the best burger in Atlanta.
For Thrillist, I wrote about a national park in Colombia home to the real Paddington. My AARP guide to the Mississippi Delta ran, along with a story for Atlas Obscura about a weird collectible. For Roadtrippers, I wrote about the Georgia Guidestones and for Fifty Grande, I wrote about Louisiana’s Northshore.
I broke into Punch covering the Hot Aperol drink I had in Vienna and the UK’s The Telegraph writing about the heyday of Jekyll Island. For BBC Travel, I wrote about the origins of Vail’s ski resort. I also had new print stories in Girl Camper about Asheville and for Hemispheres about a Tennessee road trip.
Stay tuned later this month for an interview with plant experts about alternatives to peat moss, how to shop for architectural salvage, San Antonio beyond the Alamo, a rails-to-trail line in Virginia, a charming Tennessee town, and a national park coming to Georgia.

Traveling
After my trip to Vienna in December, I went to the British Virgin Islands for an incredible week of sailing. I’m already mentally planning my next trip! Then I spent a few days at Hawks Cay, a resort I visited as a kid. I went to Greenville for the day for a baby shower and to Boston for one night for an event.
I also had a lovely trip to a small town in the Smokies and returned to my beloved former home of Charleston. In January, I went to Walt Disney World for a half marathon (difficult but I survived!) and then to the mountains of North Carolina for a snowy weekend getaway.
This week I’m off to a part of Louisiana I’ve visited a number of times before and then to New York City for a conference. I’m having a medical procedure in February and am looking forward to some much-needed rest.
