You’ll notice that I haven’t gotten out one of these posts in six months. But I have been slowly digging out of the archives of travels from the last year or so. My undiagnosed probably ADHD is definitely kicking in!
In every monthly post, I like to share the articles I’m reading, the shows I’m watching, and the podcasts I’m listening to. They’ll remain free to read but there will continue to be affiliate links to recommended products to support site upkeep.
If you’re looking for a way to support my work, buy my book, read my articles, or sign up for my courses. Thanks again for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
I’ve finally gotten back into reading! I don’t know what took me so long but I go through bursts without the focus to finish one. I wouldn’t say I’ve finished many books in the past six months, but I did read This Must Be the Place (about the bygone clubs of New York City), Where Are Your Boys Tonight (an oral history of emo music), Killers of the Flower Moon, Dead Distillers, Adult Drama (written by Caroline Calloway’s ex-bestie), The Woman in Me (Team Britney, audiobook version), and Party Monster. I’m now almost done with Selma Blair’s memoir, Mean Baby.
To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
I’ve had some time to listen to podcasts and audiobooks on recent long drives, including The Debutante, a wild story about a society woman turned white supremacist. I’ve also been listening to episodes of Dark House and the new show Talking to Death.
Watching
After seeing the trailer, I knew I wanted to see Saltburn and it was even wilder than expected. I love Emerald Fennell and just when you think you’ve seen it all, you haven’t. Two people left the theater while I was there!
I’m absolutely loving Fellow Travelers, even though I know it’s going to be heartbreaking. And somehow I got into Yellowstone after watching it on a plane so that’s become my go-to on Delta flights.
Loving
Is it cheesy to say decorating for the holidays?
Working
I’ve obviously done a lot of work since this summer, so I’ll just share a few personal highlights. I enjoyed my first stories for Modern Farmer on a family-owned distillery in Arkansas and VinePair on the unknown history of bourbon in Mexico during Prohibition.
I loved writing about bygone office trends for Architectural Digest, my obsession with novelty decanters for InsideHook, and my love for a particular dive bar for Savannah Magazine. A book I worked on earlier this year also came out, Where to Go When The Americas.

Traveling
Again, lots has happened! In July, I went to Scottsdale (during a historic heat wave) and New Orleans for a booze industry convention. August brought me to Oklahoma City, which I immediately loved. September was a wild one, where I returned to Puerto Rico for the SATW convention and a few days of R&R on Culebra.
I immediately left for Vancouver for another conference followed by a few days in stunning Victoria. After that trip, COVID finally caught up with me, but thankfully it was a mild case. At the end of the month, it was off to Panama City, Florida.
Most of October was spent in Virginia, including rural Smyth County, the city of Bristol, and a resort in the town of Hot Springs (by private plane!). And finally, in November, I took a quick trip to Beaufort to tour a Frank Lloyd Wright home, jetted to Oaxaca for Day of the Dead, and went on a pre-Thanksgiving sibling vacation to Santa Barbara.
