I’m trying to find more balance this year, which includes setting aside time to keep up this site. It’s easier said than done since I usually need to focus on paid work, but I’m still passionate about writing for fun. I’m hoping to set aside time just for myself.
In every monthly post, I like to share the articles I’m reading, the shows I’m watching, and the podcasts I’m listening to. They’ll remain free to read but there will continue to be affiliate links to recommended products to support site upkeep.
If you’re looking for a way to support my work, buy my book, read my articles, or sign up for my courses. Thanks again for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!
Reading
I finished Selma Blair’s memoir, Mean Baby, which was sad but ultimately hopeful. Her career has been so interesting to follow and her advocacy work for her disease has been important. I also started Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami and am reading a huge stack of books for research, including A Night at the Sweet Gum Head by Martin Padgett, which follows an Atlanta gay club in the 1970s.
To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
I’m currently on The Vanishing Point, which focuses on missing Indigenous women in the West.
Watching
The new Doctor Who episodes have been absolutely fantastic and Ncuti Gatwa is as incredible as I’d hoped. I fell for him watching Sex Education and this role is perfectly suited to him. I’ve also started rewatching Girls on HBO, which is funny given how long it’s been since it came out.
Loving
I’ve loved spending time with loved ones at parties and movie nights and casual hang outs. It’s something that restores me that I haven’t put as much of an emphasis on in past years. I’m also in love with the treasures I got for Christmas, including an iridescent Estelle cake plate, coffee table books on the Chelsea Hotel and Dolly Parton, and much-needed towels for my bathroom.
Working
The end of the year is always an interesting time for work, but thankfully I had some wins. For Marriott Bonvoy Traveler, I shared my picks for where to travel this year. In my first for the Chicago Tribune (print and digital!), I wrote about the art scene of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Coming up, I have a story on the Ocmulgee Mounds here in Georgia, a new treehouse resort in Tennessee, and airports to stock your bar. I’m also working on a book proposal so if all goes well, I’ll have a big project this year!
If you’d like to see more of my work, visit my professional website, CarolineEubanks.com, for more information. If you got a copy of my book, review it on Amazon or Goodreads. Or you can sign up for one of my online writing classes.
Traveling
After Thanksgiving, I returned to Fort Myers, Florida, which underwent extensive damage in a hurricane last year. The following week, I returned to West Virginia for the first time in over a decade for a conference planning trip. But I also made time for some shopping and eating! I also took a short trip to Dollywood with my family and an overnight in Chattanooga.
I’m starting the year slowly, still tired from the manic pace of last year, but I’ll be spending some time this month on the Georgia coast for a family wedding and a work-cation. Where are you headed next?
