I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
This has been a good month for reading as I’ve spent every night reading for at least 30 minutes. I’ve read The Color Purple, This Is Where I Leave You, and The Importance of Being Earnest, two of which I must have missed in school. I’ve also started reading Sing, Unburied, Sing, which is set in Mississippi.
To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
I’m listening to the same podcasts but listened to Nice White Parents in a matter of days. I’ll admit that it’s super cringey to hear some of these tone-deaf parents, especially as someone who doesn’t have kids. But it’s an important conversation to have about race. I also enjoyed the first episode of Very Amusing from theme park journalist Carlye Wisel.
Watching
I’ve put all of my more intense and true crime adjacent shows on hold for some lighter viewing. In the past few weeks, it’s been Happy Endings, which I consider to be the perfect sitcom. The length is ideal, pretty much all of the characters are equally likable-unlikeable and it doesn’t have the terrible stereotypes like Friends. I never watched in real-time and enjoyed their recent Zoom episode for charity.
I also watched Palm Springs, which was totally different than I thought it would be. It was a fun sci-fi adjacent comedy with Andy Samberg and Cristin Miloti.
Loving
I’m not going to lie. This has been a hard month. This time last year, we lost my uncle to liver failure. And last week, my grandfather passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. The country is under attack from hurricanes and wildfires and police brutality and lies from politicians.
So it’s safe to say my mental health is not in its best place. I recently purchased Penguin CBD oil to help. I’ve also been using cooking as a way to calm myself. I most recently tried making gnocchi, fairly successfully.
Working
Rome, Georgia Charleston, South Carolina
Despite all that’s going on in the world, I haven’t stopped working. I’ve taken on a few more articles for Explore Georgia and The Archive as well as another for a regional tourism board. Unfortunately, another story of mine got killed (which was previously killed by another publication) so that was a bummer.
But the silver lining is that my first story for Travel + Leisure was published (of which I’m immensely proud) about the hotel I stayed at in Charleston a few months back. I also published a travel story on a North Georgia town with Simply Buckhead and have another coming soon with Apartment Therapy.

Traveling
I obviously didn’t travel much this month and my remaining trips this year have been canceled. But I have taken opportunities to visit places in my own backyard. I recently joined a tour of Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, a town two hours south of Atlanta. They’re trying to repurpose the space that was once home to 13,000 patients, including my great-grandmother. I’m working on a story about it that I hope to publish soon.
