In every monthly post, I like to share the articles I’m reading, the shows I’m watching, and the podcasts I’m listening to. They’ll remain free to read but there will continue to be affiliate links to recommended products to support site upkeep.
If you’re looking for a way to support my work, buy my book, read my articles, or sign up for my courses. Thanks again for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading
I finished reading Crying in H Mart and have to say that it definitely lives up to the hype. I love how the memoir weaves in stories related to food. I’ve just started reading All Over the Place by longtime fellow travel blogger Geraldine DeRuiter and find it hilarious. I’ve also started World Travel by Anthony Bourdain.
This GQ story about the bygone era of hippie communes in California was an interesting read. The Atlantic published a heartbreaking story on the anniversary of 9/11. I read this Rolling Stone story from 2019 while researching my own story about the people that collect items related to serial killers.
To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).
Listening
If you haven’t listened to the new Kacey Musgraves album, what are you doing? Even if you’re not a country fan, you’ll find a song to love on this breakup album.
In terms of podcasts, I fell off of Armchair Expert a while back because I couldn’t keep up with the long episodes and my interest in celebrity interviews had waned. But I have enjoyed Armchaired and Dangerous, a series by David Farrier. They cover things like QAnon, JFK assassination theories, and simulation theory.
Watching
After hearing lots of praise, I finally watched The White Lotus. I thought it was funny and dark but there were some truly cringe moments that were tough to get through. But the locations in Hawaii were incredible. I’ve also started LulaRich, a documentary series about the rise of LulaRoe, the leggings and cotton clothing MLM giant.
I know people who sold for them and the way they target stay-at-home moms, especially in rural areas with few other options, is shady. Read this article for more. I’ve also enjoyed the new season of Sex Education.
Loving
Not much to report in my spending habits but I bought a few items before a recent trip, including the Loop quiet noise-reducing earplugs. They’re great for snoring partners or blocking out plane noises and have multiple ear sizes. I also bought a pair of Everlane workout shorts on sale. I’ve had great experiences with their products and these are no different.
Causes
Last month was the late musician’s birthday so I made a donation to the Otis Redding Foundation. I’m also supporting the Bayou Fund for hurricane relief in Louisiana.
Working
It’s been a frustrating month for work because I’ve had to harass two different outlets to pay me after weeks of delays. It really takes the fun out of this job. But I was thankfully eventually paid and didn’t have to seek out a lawyer.
I wrote my final story for Eagle Creek, a longtime client, about hikes in Tennessee after the brand decided to close. My first story for Garden & Gun just ran, about an incredible music venue in Tallahassee that is keeping the blues alive.
I also turned in my first story for Architectural Digest, about using salvaged wood in my home and tips to DIY, and for Saving Places, about a Green Book-era motel in Asheville revived as a music recording space. Over on AAA, I’m writing about my favorite foodie spots in Columbus, Ohio.
For Roadtrippers, I wrote about a spooky museum in Savannah, just in time for Halloween. And for 10Best, I wrote about Helen, Georgia’s Oktoberfest festivities.

Traveling
By the time you see this, I will have returned from Las Vegas, where I spent a few days attending a travel industry trade show and exploring the city for my first visit since 2016. I stayed at the Vdara and ate at so many incredible places, so I’ll be writing about it soon.
After a week at home, I turned right back around and went to a travel writing conference in Milwaukee. I’ve loved my experiences in the Midwest so this city is already a favorite for its beer history and cocktail culture.
